Build and Test Your Specs

edi spec builderIn this earlier story we described a unique option available through ec-bp.com that allows trading partners to collaborate in creating and testing their EDI documents. The service is available at no charge through the EDI Specs link at the top of the page. We present this as a service that was spawned by one of the founding tenets of ec-bp - that EDI testing services should be available on demand, and at no charge. So here it is.

Whether you already have access to free testing services or not, we invite you to participate in this community experiment that is designed to create a cooperative environment where specifications can be built in minutes (really) and can then be tested using the connected service that accesses the specs.

Here is a video of the spec builder in action. Granted - it moves at a pretty fast pace that only someone with experience in both the internals of EDI documents and familiarity with this tool will be able to approach. But the point is that it’s a real and viable system that you can take advantage of and use right now… not at some point down the road.

I invite you to click the EDI Specs menu item and give the tool a try. You can start by searching the system for specs that have already been added. There are already more than 250 companies that include their EDI document definitions and 85 with electronic templates ready for use in your own testing. If you have the documentation for your trading partners, give a shot at creating your own electronic template for testing. Once you’ve done that, other companies that use the same trading partner can simply upload their EDI document and test it against the template you created.

We want to hear your successes and your thoughts on how this works and what you would like to see added.
