hub-spokeThe most noticeable difference between VAN1 (the “traditional” VAN from the 1980's) and VAN2 (today's technology) is the fact that a company can operate their own network instead of being a customer on somebody else's. Control the network according to your needs, Embed EDI Network functions within your code, and start creating completely unique EDI management functions that will overturn 20+ years of non-optimized EDI integration nightmares!

ECGrid is an example of VAN2. It supports AS2 and FTP and API, combined with superior account control, all at a fraction of the cost of running your own communications racks. It includes:

  • Intersystem interconnections via API calls and world class net ops.
  • Next generation routing architecture connecting to a world of global commerce networks.
  • VAN2 empowers cloud ventures to penetrate the SME sector - the next EDI frontier - with an estimated $30B of untapped IT revenue waiting to be captured.
  • These new B2B cloud services are the place to participate in supply chain and horizontal commerce operations. It allows you to run a “virtual VAN”.

The SuperHUB product is for Hubs and Ecommerce Service Providers wanting to leverage the power of a VAN2, reducing both costs and support burdens. It is a “HUB of HUBS”! The idea behind SuperHUB is to keep it simple. The SuperHUB user avoids the issues surrounding setups. For example, AS2 certificates are simply updated by the trading partners who also have the power to address management issues. SuperHUB utilizes the power of VAN2 to deliver an upgraded experience for major hubs.

Updates are done on the Internet. No more FAX to the VAN! Well, a year or so ago, my free FAX provider disappeared and I still have no more use for FAX!

Hubs on SuperHUB pay a fee of $500/month plus $10/month per ACTIVE trading partner, no kilocharacter, message or any other fees at all. All SuperHUB trading partners can connect to their hub through AS2 for free or through their selected VAN or ECSP.

Integral to this concept is a “social network”. This network is like Facebook and LinkedIn, except it is “role based”, not “person based”. This is important because there needs to be on-going communication outside of EDI between trading partners. Retail Universe is headed that way. It would be really cool to find the killer B2B social network that is open enough to connect for free or a small subscription fee to any business application of any company.

We haven't seen the last of the "social business network" and we could reach another level of connectivity enablement if a true B2B Google / Facebook / LinkedIN would emerge from or take over an existing ISP.
