Cecil's News Flash

It isn't often that I get to report that an effort to highlight things that should be done differently, result in an actual change to a company's trding practices. And it may be a simple coincidence that Anna's Linens has issued an update that conforms to my colleague, Marlow's suggestions, but change is good, particularly in this case.

Both Marlow and I have been commenting on poor implementations and poor sales practices in the land of EDI. I know that you hear us. And from time to time, we hear from you that you are experiencing the same frustrations we point out. It's rare, however, to see action taken to resolve any of these issues.

But last week we saw just such action from Anna's Linens. Neither of us know if the company's actions were taken as a result of Marlow's specifically pointing out the problems their poor implementations caused (no one from the company has contacted us to thank us for our diligence). And even if we never know the real story, we are certainly happy that the world of EDI is now, at least a marginally better place.

I won't go into the specifics, here, and I don't have permission to reprint the notification from Anna's Linens to its trading partners, but the change the company is putting in place as of 9/2, changes the SDQ segment with regard to pre-distributed purchase orders. These will now contain a 'ship to' location for one of the company's distribution centers.

Now, doesn't that just make sense?

Marlow, if this change is even partially due to your comments, I salute you. Heck, I salute you anyhow for keeping us all up to date on the right way to handle these arcane details.

Cheers!
Cecil
