Number Of European E-Invoices Skyrocketed In 2013

mini-eu-mapAccording to a recently released survey conducted by the European E-invoicing Service Providers Association (EESPA), 840 million electronic invoices were processed and delivered to invoice receivers in 2013. That number signifies an increase of 19 percent from figures from the year 2012, when 706 million e-invoices were processed and delivered.

The survey, which was the EESPA’s first annual among its members, was completed in June 2014. The company embarked on the survey to demonstrate its commitment to electronic invoicing and depict the growing popularity of e-invoicing.

According to the survey, the vast majority of electronic invoices transmitted in Europe in 2013 were processed between businesses or between companies and governmental agencies.

Another revelation of the poll is that EESPA members are likely processing more than half the electronic invoices sent throughout Europe in 2013.

In a press release issued by the EESPA, Ahti Allikas, a member of the organization’s Executive Committee and Product Director says, “We are happy to see sharp growth in the number of e-invoices; it reflects the importance of the topic and in EESPA we are anxious to help customers to boost their e-invoicing.”

The EESPA was formed in 2011 as an international not-for-profit trade association supporting European e-invoicing service providers by offering networking, business outsourcing, financial, technological and electronic data interchange services.
